Veterinary Services in Granville NY

Your pet is an important part of your family, and when he or she is ill, you want the best medical care available. The veterinarians and staff at our clinic are ready to provide your pet with cutting edge veterinary services. From wellness exams and vaccines to advanced diagnostics and complex surgical procedures, your dog, cat or ferret will receive high quality care at our hospital.

Emergencies can occur at any time. We strive to provide “after-hours”  emergency coverage for our regular clients, but the reality is that it is impossible for us to maintain coverage 24 hours per day/ 7 days per week.  Dr. Meyer is the only veterinarian on our staff who covers emergencies, and it is just not possible for him to be available every night and every weekend. We are able to cover about  50% of our “after-hours”.  Also, being a small hospital in a rural area, we are unable to provide 24-hour on-site nursing care (i.e. we do not have somone stay in the hospital throughout the night). For those times when we cannot provide emergency coverage or when an animal needs 24-hour, round-the-clock care, we use the Northway Animal Emergency Clinic located on Route 9 in South Glens Falls, NY near Exit 17 of the Northway. They are fully staffed from 6:00 PM until 8:00 AM Monday through Thursday,  from 6:00 PM Friday until 8:00 AM Monday (i.e. all weekend), and all major holidays. Their phone number is 518-761-2602. Please note that when calling Granville Small Animal Hospital “after-hours”, use only the 518-642-1283 or 518-955-6434 phone numbers. No other numbers are answered after regular business hours.

Do you find that it is difficult to give your pet a bath at home? Our caring Kennel staff is ready to bathe your pet for you! We offer cleaning/grooming baths, as well as medicated baths for various skin conditions. Afterwards, your pet will be blown dry and brushed, so that it goes home looking its best. This service also includes nail trimming and ear cleaning. If we find severe matting of the haircoat, we can also trim or shave those troublesome areas.

Pets are like our children – we feed, nurture and lavish attention on them. Our highly qualified kennel attendants do the same when you can’t be there. We provide tender loving care (such as brushing and cuddling), and supervised outdoor playtime to keep them happy and active. Our new boarding facility has all the aminities your pet will love, including air conditioning during the hot Summer months and radiant floor heat for those cold Winter days. The indoor dog runs are large, clean, comfortable, and odor-free. The cat condos are furnished with climbing trees. We have plenty of room for your pet.  Please check it out next time you are in!

Regular professional dental cleaning is important in maintaining both your pet’s teeth and its overall health. We use hand scaling techniques as well as  modern and safe ultrasound equipment to clean each tooth thoroughly – above and below the gum line. Dental technicians then polish the teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity. Dental extractions are also done as needed on severely diseased teeth. Multiple follow-up preventive maintenance treatment options are available and will be discussed with you when your pet goes home. We also can arrange referrals to a dental specialist for more involved dental procedures such as root canal treatment.

Our hospital is equipped with a Fiberoptic Endoscope to aid in the visualization and diagnosis of certain gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases such as foreign objects that may have been swallowed, stomach ulcers, and tracheal abnormalities.  High-tech fiber optics permits direct visual examination and biopsies of  these systems. This allows for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of oral, esophageal, stomach, laryngeal, and tracheal disease. Sometimes, foreign objects can even be removed without the need for invasive surgery.

In any emergency, seconds count. Our experienced staff is backed up by our mobile resuscitation unit, stocked and equipped to administer the ABCs of basic life support – Airway, Breathing, Circulation/Cardiac compressions. Emergency care is offered during regular business hours, and most nights, weekends, and holidays “after-hours”.  In addition, for those times when we are not available to cover emergencies ourselves, we use the services of the Northway Animal Emergency Clinic, a  fully staffed emergency center located on Route 9 in South Glens Falls near Exit 17 of the Northway.

Ultrasound is a  non-invasive, state-of-the-art imaging technology that uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs in the same way that X-rays are used to look at bones and internal organs. Ultrasound is used primarily for the heart and abdominal organs because it allows us to see inside the organ, not just the shape and size like an X-ray. Ultrasound is an excellent tool for helping us to evaluate certain disease conditions such as cancer.  We also use it frequently as part of our breeding services for pregnancy exams.

We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Our Wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include: Comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing; heartworm and flea control; vaccination program; spay and neuter package; and specialized blood tests for all life stages.
